WILL YOU MARRY ME? is a site-specific and temporary public lecture. The content of the lecture explores some illegal practices present in our daily life and how we embody illegality itself. It comes from personal shared experiences collected between Prato, Ramallah, Marsiglia, Madrid and Nyon and it echoes some strategies and disobedient practices used by activists from all around the world as forms to circumvent the law without violating it, whenever this affects people’s rights. The lecture invites us to relate with the boundaries between what is legal and what is illegal. Considering the assumption that the law is a fluid parameter, which changes depending on where we are in the world, the historical period in which we live and the sort of privileges we enjoy, the law defines what is considered moral, licit, in other words, what is right. It distributes power and the perception of power in society, defining, categorizing, dividing and controlling. The shape of the lecture itself investigates a specific portion of the spectrum of illegality, namely the relationship between illegal acts and public space. It explores how we can act disobedience before everyone’s eyes, suggesting possible forms of complicity and public resistance.
Sara Leghissa is an independent researcher and performer based in Milan. Her artistic practice takes place mainly in public space, through a principle of ecology of resources, which uses what is already available in reality as much as possible. She creates systems and devices that try to blend in with the context, to convey images and content, and to meet and intercept different audiences, through the use of accessible technologies. She was co-founder of the Strasse art project and has collaborated with various artists and collectives, including Teatro Valdoca, -Dom, Giorgia Ohanesian Nardin, Muta Imago, Jacopo Miliani, Daniela Bershan, Dorota Gawęda & Eglė Kulbokaitė. She has presented her work in Italian and international contexts and festivals, including Santarcangelo Festival (IT), Triennale Teatro dell’Arte (IT), Short Theater (IT), VAC Foundation (IT), Far Festival (CH), Oerol Festival (NL), Parallele Festival (FR), Saal Biennal (EE), Tombees De La Nuit (FR), Mir Festival (GR). Moreover, she co-organizes Nobody’s Indiscipline for the Italian scene, an independent platform for the exchange of practices in performing art, and NESSUNO, a public gathering for a community of people who during the night claim and celebrate the energy of bodies and their diversity .ersone che nel corso della notte reclama e celebra l’energia dei corpi e la loro diversità.
